ADEKANOL UH-756VF
ADEKANOL UH series is used as thickener for synthetic resin emulsions in a wide range of applications, mainly water born emulsion paints and emulsion adhesives. ADEKANOL UH-756VF is a new developed associative PU-thickener and like the ADEKANOL UH-700 series is hardly affected by temperature. ADEKANOL UH-756VF achieves high pseudoplastic viscosity and has very good color acceptance on tinting.
UH-700 series have higher thickening properties and excellent water resistance compared to cellulose or acrylic thickeners.
UH-756VF is VOC free and shows better pigment compatibility compared with UH-752.
In UH-756VF no *VOC and SVOC raw material is used.
1. Typical Properties
UH-756VF | |
Appearance | viscous liquid |
Active Ingredient | 32 % |
Ionic property | non ionic |
Viscosity (25 ºC) | 8000 mPa·s |
2. Characteristics
- High water-resistance
- Excellent thickening effect to provide pseudoplastic property
- Hardly depends on temperature, which means no need to change the formulation in winter and summer.
- The non ionic UH-756VF can be applied with any other type of thickeners and compounds with various pH-values for optimal viscosity shear rates and properties.
- UH-756VF can applied directly or after dilution by a solvent.
- When used together with a leveling type thickener like ADEKANOL UH-420 to modify the viscosity, premixing of these two products is recommended for easier homogenization before adding them to the formulation.
4. Evaluation in acryl emulsion
4.1 Temperature dependence
Test method
Add adequate amount of ADEKANOL UH-756VF and stir well. Leave the emulsion to stand overnight at 25°C. The viscosity change is checked at 5 oC, 25 oC, 40 oC by Brookfield viscometer (B8H type) and the ratio of the difference is calculated.

4.2 Viscosity change
Test method
Add adequate amount of ADEKANOL UH-756VF and stir well. Leave the emulsion to stand overnight at 25℃. The viscosity is measured by Viscometer (B8H type, condition : 50, 20,10, 5 rpm) at 25℃. Viscosity data is plotted in Log-Log graph and the shear viscosity properties are calculated from the shape of plot lines as TI (thixotropic index).
The rheological profile is measured by rheometer.

Rehological profile
UH-756VF shows high pseudoplastic (thixotropic) properties similar to HEC and alkali swelling thickeners.
4.3 Water resistance
Test method
A given amount of thickener is mixed into a resin emulsion for stone-slab paints and the compound is stirred until it becomes homogeneous. It is then applied on a glass plate using a 10 mil applicator and subsequently dried. After soaking in warm water at 30 ºC for 22 hours, the whiteness (WB) of the generated paint films is measured.

Test method
Add adequate amount of ADEKANOL UH-756VF and stir well. Leave the paint to stand overnight at 25℃. The viscosity is measured by Brookfield viscometer (B8H type, condition : 50, 20,10, 5 rpm) at 25℃. Temperature dependence is calculated by the each viscosity.

5.2 Pigment compatibility
Test method: The thickener is stirred into the white paint and then a colored pigment paste is added. After one night at 25oC the paint is applied on an art-paper and one corner is rubbed with the fingers. After drying, the color difference is compared between the rubbed area and the non rubbed area.
Black column shows the difference of the flat area between HEC H-4 to the flat areas of the UH types. Grey column shows the difference between the rubbed and the flat, non rubbed areas of UH.
